To: R. Feynmann, Physicist —
The difference between God and man is creative ability R. Feynmann. Omnipotence?– Nothing more than a hydrogen bomb. Omniscience? —How good of a scientist are you? Beauty, truth, all things worthy of creation by a diety — how good of an artist are you?
When man is stagnating, dieties are sent to earth to stimulate science and art. Newton, DeVinci, Gauss, and many others sacrificed their immortality to gift their beloved creations with divine inspiration. When a mortal transcends into the realm of true genius, the realm of divine creativity, they are summoned by the divines. Einstein, Noethers, Dickenson, David Foster Wallace, are among the chosen few. Now you, Richard Feynmann, have transcended the clay you were sculpted from. We hereby invite you to take up the burdens and privileges of the divines. Join us in creation Dr. Feynmann, help us write the laws of nature you treasure and worship. Truth is the creativity of the divines, sculpt it as it has sculpted you.
Pulled by Richard Feynmann as case law precedent in his post-mortal trial for involvement in the Manhattan Project. (Time and Space have no meaning in this context so date and location will not be given)
“Prometheus, how do you plead to the charges of intellectual property theft and corrupting moral sentient creatures?”
“Not guilty your honors”
“Very well, we will hear your opening statements now. You of course have the right to waive this…”
“Don’t read me my rights. Don’t try to cloak this witchhunt in liberalism and moral concern. I have no rights that Zeus and his Kronies don’t decide to give me on the spot . This is a show trial and nothing more. I will be crucified, or push a rock up a hill, or be tossed into the bowels of earth to have birds peck at my liver for eternity, or some sick fancy of yours. All of this because I tricked and humiliated Zeus, nothing more. This is about nothing more. You cannot simply change the rules in the middle of the competition because you are losing Zeus!”
Zeus waved his hand signalling for Prometheus to sit in silence. Several burly demigods rose to enforce the whim.
“YOU KNOW THEIR FREE WILL IS USELESS IN IGNORANCE. WITHOUT TRUTH THEY CANNOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE CHOOSING! IT IS THE ONLY THING THE MORTALS HAVE LEFT. THEY TRADED EVERYTHING FOR IT. YOU ARE MONSTERS! YOU CANNOT CENSOR EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING THAT THREATENS YOUR POWER! OF COURSE THE TRUTH CAN HURT THEM! OF COURSE THE TRUTH IS DIRTY AND FRIGHTENING! THEY KNEW THAT WHEN THEY TRADED THEIR BLISS AWAY FOR FREE WILL AT EDEN! THEY AREN’T CHILDREN! THEY ARE OUR CREATIVE FRUIT! THEY ARE AS WORTHY OF PROTECTION AS FIRE IS!”
Prometheus was forced to the ground struggling to the last, and dragged out of the courtroom to a holding cell.
“The court will now hear from the counsel of Prometheus for his legal defense.”
“Thank you your honors. As the court knows, Prometheus has a fallible mortal brain as he was promoted to rather than born as a Titan. We must discuss the nature of such a delicate capricious organ. Insanity runs through almost all mortals. It is simply compartmentalized into regions of the brain whose command is suppressed by more rational sections of the mortal brain. Prometheus was blinded by his love for humanity. He was irrational as a mother will become irrational in defending her children. He cannot be held responsible for his actions as a hollistic being due to reasons of duress and insanity.
Now recognize we are not moving that this court abandon all punitive ambitions. We simply wish to only punish those responsible. The prototype for the mortal brain was sculpted at the hands of many many different divine creators. It is a diverse organ with many different sections all vying for command of the mortal. We cannot hold the entire mortal accountable for his actions but must punish the neuron clusters that were in command of the mortal at the time of his actions. Mortals have a rudimentary concept of the many different pieces that make up their consciousness. The mortal mind is in fact of many minds. Each of these minds have their own dreams, passions, and conceptions of the good life. They fight each other for command. We must therefore punish only the pieces of Prometheus’s brain that were responsible for his gift of fire to the mortals.
I would now like to call a mortal expert to testify on different neuron clusters and their role in human behavior. Address her as Dr. Cynn please. She may be quite disoriented so please be patient with her in adjusting.”
